Do you want to study for free anywhere you choose? Although very few, there are actually international scholarships that allow you to study at any country or just about anywhere. Scholarships funded by global and regional organizations allow you to study at any country or a wide selection of countries. Due its nature, distance learning scholarships allow you to pursue international studies in your own country or wherever you may be.
1. Global Scholarships for Study in Any Country
Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants
The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global Grant scholarships. The scholarship funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years. The minimum budget for a global grant scholarship is $30,000 which can fund the following: passport/visa, inoculations, travel expenses, school supplies, tuition, room and board, etc. Generally, the study grants can be carried out in any country where there is a host Rotary club or district.
OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) offers fully-funded scholarships to qualified applicants who wish to study for a Master’s degree in an accredited University around the world*. The scholarships are worth up to $50,000 and covers the tuition fees, monthly allowance to cover living expenses, accommodation, insurance, books, relocation grants, and travel costs.
Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Program
The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from selected developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year. The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. Generally, the scholar is allowed to choose a reputable University of his/her choice.
2. Global Scholarships for Study in a Wide Selection of Countries
Joint Japan World Bank Scholarships
The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) sponsors students from developing countries to pursue graduate studies leading to a master’s degree from preferred and partner universities around the world. The scholarship provides travel costs between your home country and the host university, tuition for your graduate program, the cost of basic medical insurance, a monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.
The Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. The ADB-JSP provides full tuition fees, a monthly subsistence and housing allowance, an allowance for books and instructional materials, medical insurance, and travel expenses.
Wells Mountain Foundation Scholarships for Developing Countries
The Wells Mountain Foundation, a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, funds the Empowerment through Education scholarships for individuals in developing nations or other situations of extreme poverty. You can study in a university of your choice in your home country or in another developing country. The average scholarship amount awarded is $1400 which may be used for tuition and fees, books and materials, and other approved costs.
3. Distance Learning Scholarships for Study in your own Country or Anywhere
Edinburgh Global Distance Learning Scholarships
The University of Edinburgh offers scholarships for students from selected developing countries to pursue any distance learning Master’s programme offered by the University. Each scholarship will cover the full tuition fees over three years.
Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in partnership with UK Universities offers distance learning scholarships as part of the commitment of the Commission and the Department for International Development’s (DFID) commitment to explore new methods of scholarship delivery. The scholarships are targeted to citizens of developing commonwealth countries. The scholarships cover the overseas tuition fees at the Masters degree level.
University of the People Tuition Free Degrees
University of the People (UoPeople) is the world’s first tuition-free, non-profit, accredited online academic institution dedicated to opening access to higher education globally. UoPeople offers Associate and Bachelor Degree Programs in Business Administration and Computer Science. Tuition fee is free but students are required to pay around $110-150 processing and exam fees per semester. Scholarships are available to cover these fees.
edX Free Online Courses at Premier Universities
edX is a learning platform that gives students from any country the opportunity to take free online courses offered by three premier Universities in the US – Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley plus other premier universities. Online learners can earn a certificate of completion after completing the course. The course are available to anyone in the world – from any demographic – who has access to a computer with internet access.
